Helping You To Interpret The Prophetic Word

Prophetic Understanding Newsletter

The study of prophecy is complicated but also very rewarding at the same time.  Prophecy reveals God’s mind.  As the creator of all things, whether physical and spiritual or seen and unseen, God our Father wants to reveal Himself to us.  He wants to have a relationship with us and, as such, He wants to mold us into the likeness of His Son, Jesus.  Because He is all-powerful, the Lord God does this through the indwelling of His Holy Spirit in our lives.  The Holy Spirit comes to and resides within everyone who will turn to God and seek to know Him.  This seeking urge is actually prompted by God.  Like every Good Shepherd, our Lord is constantly looking for the sheep (us) that have wandered off and have not listened to His voice (that inner calling we can feel but can’t quite put our finger on) in order to bring them into His fold.

God’s calling begins by listening to His Word.  His Word is Truth and it is Life.  To all who will listen to His Word, He adopts them into His family and bestows upon them the riches of His unending love and grace.  This, then, is the spirit of prophecy—the revelation of God’s will and purpose for humankind.  Unfortunately, many choose not turn to God but, rather, to go their own way, living lives outside of God’s will and purpose.  This brings separation from God and, with it, the inevitable heartache caused because of sin and despair.  Universally, humans want to be at home—a safe place where they can feel loved, nurtured, valued and understood.  So, how does one find their way home?  It begins by listening to God’s voice, which He speaks through His Word in the Bible.

The Gospel, at John 1:14, tells us: “The Word (Jesus) became flesh and dwelled among us and we have seen His glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.”  The Apostle, John, was given the privilege of being called by Jesus as one of His disciples.  John came to know Him intimately.  He followed Jesus for three and one-half years during the first century, he heard His teachings, witnessed His many miracles, saw His death on a cruel cross but, more importantly, experienced His resurrection three days later!  When he wrote his Gospel, John tells us that, in the beginning, the Word simply was, (that is, Jesus existed in the Godhead before time began when the universe was brought into existence).  This Word (Jesus) was with God and was, in fact, God.  He was in the beginning with God and made everything that was ever made in the entire universe; thus, there was nothing that He did not make or cause to be made.  The creation is a great mystery but we can know it by listening to God’s voice through His Word and inviting His Holy Spirit to come into our lives.  This is the Spirit of Prophecy and Knowledge.
